Etsy Craft Party!!!

Have you heard about this? If not, listen up!
We are hosting the Abilene site for Etsy's annual craft day.

Who: Adult women. We want this to be a time to spend with other adults, away from babies and interruptions that we typically face at home.

What: A free craft day to promote community. Supplies will be provided(donations accepted), and we'll have 4 guided craft activities. You are welcome to bring your own project to work on if you'd like. No experience necessary, we just want to have fun. Our focus this year is community, so one of our crafts will be something to give back to local non-profits.

When: Saturday, June 15, 2013
            10:30am-1:30pm
*Etsy's National Craft Day is June 20th, but we thought I weekend would be easier than a weeknight, so we're going to party a little early.

Where: Hinds Square Building
              100 Chestnut Street, Ste 112
              Abilene, TX 79602

How: Click here to register. You will get an email confirmation where you can print your ticket, or download it to your phone. If you forget to bring it, I'll have a list of those who've registered.

Although I tried to pretend it wasn't really happening, I think they are serious about taking away blogger, so I'm moving over to Bloglovin. You can find it here;

Pinterest Inspired Project

I don't have a link back for this, but I've seen string art all over Pinterest for many months.  I finally got myself some baker's twine and decided to try it. Holy moly is this an easy project. You just get a piece of wood, some nails, and string. Trace an image with nails and fill in with the string. Took me about 30 minutes start to finish.

Heirlooms

Check out this beauty.

Please ignore my oh so red hands, unkempt nails, and the poor picture quality(cell phone quick-snap).
But just look at that ring!
Until last week it belonged to my grandmother for the last 40 years or so. Someone made it for her when they were selling jewelry in the lobby of the hotel where she worked.  She has ALWAYS worn that ring, but lately I haven't seen it around much.  Her Alzheimer's is getting worse, so I just assumed she put it somewhere and forgot about it.  I've told her on numerous occasions that she couldn't ever get rid of it because it was just so unique and pretty. Then last weekend she gave it to me.  She said she couldn't wear it anymore and didn't want it to get lost.
Wow.
I was pretty surprised. but I'm thrilled to have something that she treasured so much and for so long. It is the best gift she's ever given me.
I will treasure it.

Do you have any family heirlooms you love?

Words of Wisdom Wednesday

Last night I was watching a television show, and the message was profound;

It is much easier to let hate into your heart than it is to grieve the event which has caused you discontentment. However, it is much healthier for not only you, but everyone around you, to allow yourself time to grieve and learn to love again.

I don't feel like I'm in need of grieving anything in particular right now that would otherwise cause me to be hate-filled and resentful, but that message was shouting at my heart.  I may not feel like it's something I need today, but I know it is a lesson I need to remember always. It really is easier to say an unkind word or think an unkind thought, to be snarky or rude, to hold a grudge rather than forgive, but I know it isn't better.

Sometimes we don't even realize we are being hateful, it just kind of creeps into our thoughts, words, and deeds.  I think losing respect for someone if they've done something hurtful to you, or losing love through a break-up or death are the easiest things we can see in our lives as reasons to be on our toes about letting hate in.

So today your challenge is this: Choose to grieve.  Choose forgiveness. Choose to be filled with love, even when it is difficult, but most of all, do not choose hate.

Why do I keep ditching you guys?

Honestly, I don't really know. It isn't intentional. Life just happens.

You might be wondering where I've been. Rest easy, I've been here all along, but I have once again taken an almost 3 month break from this place called blogland.

I miss it, but I'll tell you, life has been busy, and sometimes writing about it is just one more thing on my list that I can't get done. I want to. Trust me. Every time I complete a project, or while it's in progress I have a mini dialogue with myself about how to write the post for it. The thing is, I haven't done it. I haven't even taken pictures of all the projects I've accomplished in the last 3 months. Why? Well, mostly because I was having so much fun(read; going so fast) getting things accomplished that I actually forgot about taking step by step photos or even photos of finished projects. Sad, I know, but not really. Just think how much more we can accomplish when we don't have to stop and photograph every step so we can give the world one more tutorial about how to do something that 500,000 other somebodies have already told us how to do.  Did that sentence make your head hurt? Sorry. It's something I've been struggling with. I LOVE writing, and I especially love reading all the other blogs(PLEASE DON'T RUN AWAY LIKE ME) and looking through Pinterest for ideas about how to improve our lives, or fun things we can make/do to enhance our experience as a family. I will say though, not stopping to take a photo of my process on projects the last few months has let me get things done much faster. And I'll tell you what, when you only have an hour naptime in which to accomplish 10 tasks during your Saturday without worrying where the munchkin is or what she's getting into, well, going faster is helpful.  However, I DO intend to show you some things I've done around the house soon. I'm hoping I can take photos today or tomorrow and get some things posted over the next few weeks.

I might just start a Pinterest Inspired Project of the Week/Month.  Keep an eye out for it.
